Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to make students comprehend the basic concepts and facts related to physical geography.

5Explain the basic concepts, phenomena and general characteristics of the water cycle on earth, surface waters, lakes, seas, oceans and groundwaters related to hydrography.
6Explain the basic concepts, facts and general characteristics of the main vegetation belts on the earth.
7Explains the basic concepts, phenomena, soil types and soil erosion in general about soil geography.
8Evaluates the relations between physical geography and human and economic geography according to geographical principles.

Course Contents
The development of the science of geography and the processes of gaining scientific identity; the formation of the earth and its geological history, its internal structure, shape, movements and the resulting results; the shaping of the earth and the factors that are effective in this process (geomorphology); earth's atmosphere and climate system (climatology); distribution, characteristics and effects of ground and surface waters (hydrography); soil geography (formation, types, distribution, soil problems); plant geography (classification, habitat conditions, distribution), map information

1Definition, subject, principles, parts of geography. Historical development of geography. Universe, solar system and earth.
2Shape and dimensions of the earth. Earth movements and their consequences. The movements of the moon and its consequences. Solar and lunar eclipses.
3Map info: Globe. Projections. Latitude. Longitude. Scale. legend. maps
4Atmospheric phenomena and climate: Layers of the atmosphere. The world's radiation balance sheet. winds. Ocean currents. air masses. Atmospheric humidity and precipitation. Climate concept. Climatic elements and climatic factors
5Classification of climates. The main climate types of the world
6The structure and composition of the Earth. Types of rocks. The movements of the earth's crust. Geological Times.
7Landforms: Forces effective in the formation of landforms. Stream topography (fluvial topography): Glacial topography. Wind topography (Arid region topography).
8Midterm exam
9Coastal topography (forms of waves and currents). Karst topography (Surface forms on karst lands). Surface shapes depending on the structure (horizontal, monoclinal, dome, folded, faulted, volcanic).
10Groundwater and resources. General characteristics of rivers
11Lakes and their classification. General characteristics of the seas.
12Soil formation processes. Physical properties of soils. Chemical properties of soils. Soil forming factors.
13Soil profile and soil horizons. Pedogenesis regimens. Classification of soils and World soil geography: Zonal Soils. Azonal soils. Intrazonal soils.
14Growing conditions of vegetation and vegetation ecology. Classification of plant communities on earth.
15Final exam
