What is Diploma Supplement?

Diploma Supplement is a document aiming to reinforce international transparency, and a document intended to ensuring the academic and professional recognition of documents such as diplomas stating the abilities and skills obtained, degrees, and certificates, and a document given in addition to a higher education diploma. It is given in order to describe the structure, level, context, content and status of the study abroad which the person whose name and identity specified on the original diploma has followed and completed successfully. It does not mean any value judgment, equivalence and recognition. This is a flexible certificate that is not imposing any rules, and at the same time it is intended for time, money and labor savings. It has designed in a form of adaptable to local needs.

Diploma Supplement is organized according to a template prepared jointly by national institutions, the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. This template tested and developed by a joint committee by these three institutions is organized in all official languages of the European Union.

What is Diploma Supplement required for?

Today all over the World new diploma and certification forms are developed; countries change their assessment style of student achievement and education systems according to rapidly changing economic, political and technological developments. Citizens whose numbers are increasing rapidly demand fair assessment of their abilities and skills.

Lack of recognition or incorrect or incomplete assessment of abilities and skills has become a global problem. Because of the fact that original diploma and other documents do not give sufficient explanatory information, without detailed additional explaination procuring acceptance of a diploma’s level and function has become extremely difficult.
