General Description
|
|
History | The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Ordu University Faculty of Arts and Sciences started education in 2016 with the change of the name and content of the Department of Biology, which started in the fall semester of the 2013 academic year. In this department, students are trained in the scientific branches of Molecular Biology, Botany, General Biology, Hydrobiology and Zoology. Academic fields of faculty members who will provide trainingin this program, are Systematic Entomology, Bioacoustical and Behavioural Ecology, Plant Anatomy and Morphology, Microbiology, Fish Biology and Age Determination, Wetland and Phytoplankton, Molecular Biology, Plant Ecology, Cytotoxicology, Genetic Toxicology, Entomopathogen, Conservation Biology. Every year in the beginning of fall and spring semesters, graduated students can enroll the Department of Biology in accordance with quotas were reported by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and conditions of the admission and registration determined by Instituteof Science at Ordu University. | Qualification Awarded | The Doctorate Degree Diploma | Level of Qualification | Third Cycle | Level of Qualification | Third Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | The applicants who have Bachelor Degree or Master Degree and sufficient YDS (Foreign Language Examination) score min 55/100, can apply the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Ordu University for Doctorate program. Before the beginning ofeach semester, number of students to be admitted to doctorate programs and the qualifications of the applicants will be announced. Also this ad includes application requirements and deadline.Candidates who have Master degree diploma or Bachelor diploma of Institute which precept at least 10 semesters except prep classes or laboratory expertise according to the guidelinesissued by the Ministryof Health gained authority, may apply to the Directorate of the Graduate School with the documents: Sufficient score (at least 55 out of 100) from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or GRE Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score equivalent to ALES score of 55. Equivalence of diploma which obtained from out of the country must be approved by the Council of Higher Education(YOK). If candidates have Bachelor diploma of Institute which precept less than 10 semesters, they must have min 75/100 score for ALES or equivalent. All applicants can apply this Doctorate program with document of ALES or equivalent, Master Diploma, or Bachelor's Diploma, Transcript and also if applicants have an YDS (Foreign Language Examination conducted by OSYM) or equivalent exam score such as TOEFL or IELTS untilthe deadline. Applicants who are foreign students, must have at least one foreign language score such as English, Frenchand German languages at least 55 points without own native language and equivalence of foreign language score which obtained from out of the country must be approved by the Council of Higher Education. | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | A student who is currently enrolled in a Doctorate Degree program in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents (Min GPA 75/100) before the deadline, may transfer to the Doctorate Program at Ordu University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. A student who wants to transfer to the Doctorate Program at Ordu University, can apply with own transcript, student certificate and petition at least three weeks before the start date of semester. Before the commencement of each semester, this application will be examined and decided prompt transfer of the student's eligibility by the Institute Board of Directors. Course credits which are appropriate or not to transfer the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics for Doctorate program at Ordu University, will be decided by supervisor, the Board of Department and Institute Board of Directors at Ordu University. | Qualification Requirements and Regulations | Students who admitted with MSc diploma, must have a minimum of eight courses delivered within the graduate program of the department and in related fields, one seminar, dissertation proposal and dissertationexam, and thesis, with a minimum of 28 local credits. Students who admitted with Bachelordiploma, must have a minimum of fifteen courses delivered within the graduate program of the department and in related fields, two seminar course, dissertation proposal and dissertationexam, and thesis, with a minimum of 52 local credits. The seminar course, dissertation proposal and dissertation exam and thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis. Taking into account the recommendations of supervisor, Ordu University Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics Doctorate courses which have a certain code, content andcredits,may be taken from the department or a different departments.A student who has completed work on the thesis within the time period, must write a thesis, using the data collected, according to the specifications of the Graduate School Thesis Writing Guide. The dissertation must be defended in front of a jury. The Doctoratedissertation jury is appointed on the recommendations of the relevant Department Chair person and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. A majority vote by the jury members determines the outcome of the dissertation. To correct or change a thesis found incomplete and/or inadequate by the jury, the jury must specify in its report that such corrections are necessary. A student may be given, by a decision of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School, up to six months to complete the corrections and redefend own thesis in front of the same jury. If a student successfully defend the dissertation, he/she must press the dissertation as a book. | Profile of The Programme | Purpose of the Doctorate program in Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Ordu University, Doctorate students who will study biology and sub-discipline of science, redound develop to ability of research and increase the knowledge, skills of access to information, assessment and interpret.As well as these studies, faculty members who have adequate knowledge and skills of Doctorate’s thesis research laboratories are being carried out successfully. | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | Doctorate students who successfully graduate from the doctorate program; They can work in a wide range of different businesses, such as Molecular-based diagnostic laboratories in private and public hospitals, IVF units in hospitals, research laboratories in hospitals, molecular-based research laboratories in the fields of agriculture and veterinary medicine, R&D units in the food and pharmaceutical industry, quality control and environmental protection units, research laboratories where studies are carried out to identify and protect biodiversity, GMO diagnostic laboratories, biomedical companies and biotechnology companies. | Access to Further Studies | If graduates who have successfully completed the Doctorate program at Ordu University Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, they can apply for the post doctorate or academic positions which are sameor similar fields, within the country or abroad,or may apply for specialist positions in public agency research centers | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | Doctorate students who continue own education at Ordu University Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics Doctorate Program, are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Doctorate’s student must receive at least 70 out of 100. The seminar course and thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis. A student who has completed work on the thesis within the time period, must be defended the dissertation in front of a jury. The defence base on two section such as ‘’Present the Thesis’’ and ‘’Question and Answer’’. A majority vote by the jury members determines the outcome of the dissertation. There are 7 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 1 Lecturer and 7 Research Assistants in the department. There are 6 research laboratories in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics: Zoology laboratory, Botany laboratory, Hydrobiology laboratory, Molecular Biology laboratory, Cell culture and Cytogenetics laboratory and Microbiology laboratory. In the department, financial support is provided to students who want to do research through many research and thesis projects supported by Scientific Research Project Unit, TÜBİTAK and different institutions. |
