General Description
|
|
History | Economics Graduate Program in Ordu University Institute of Social Sciences has been active since 2009 in postgraduate education. | Qualification Awarded | The students who are graduated from Department of Economics in Ordu University Institute of Social Science, are eligible to acquire master’s degree of economics. | Level of Qualification | Second Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | Economics Graduate Program in Ordu University Institute of Social Sciences, executes a graduate program at the level approved and determined by Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
New programs can be opened in the institute with application of the department, recommendation of institute council, approval of the senate and decision of Council of Higher Education. Final grade of prospectives is obtained by the collection of %50 of ALES point, %20 of grade point average and %10 of foreign language point. The written exam is graded out of 100. To be successful, a prospective's grade must be at least 60. Prospectives whose score are higher than the minimum score, are placed in programme by ranking from highest score, according to quotas declared. Instead of the prospectives who did not make registration due to various reasons, prospectives on the reserve list, have registration right within the time periods in the acedemic calendar according to points.
| Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | Credited graduate courses that a student took as a special or regular student and succeeded in last five years before the student enrolled the institute, related to the department can be transfered with the opinion of consultant and approval of Institute Board.
| Qualification Requirements and Regulations | a)In order to apply economics graduate program, prospective students must have taken at least 55 point from ALES (made centally by The Student Selection and Placement Center (SSPC) ) or a point equivalent to 55 of ALES according to the interuniversity board. Of the equivalence of diplomas obtained from abroad must be approved by the Council of Higher Education. Final grade of prospectives is obtained by the collection of %50 of ALES point, %20 of grade point average and %10 of foreign language point. The written exam is graded out of 100. Also;
1) While admitting students to the Department of Economics, prospectives’ UDS, KPDS or other national or international exams -whose validity is admitted by the interuniversity council- scors are taken based on.
2) When the students -graduated from the department of economics as first in that year- wanted to get master’s degree in economics, they are gotten accepted wihout exam provided that they have necessary ALES scor. Determining the first students of departments, normal education and evening education are regarded as same department.
b) It is determined by the Interuniversity Council that graduates of which departmens can appy economics graduate program; but the senate may decide to admit student from other departments.
| Profile of The Programme | There are four main departments, Economic Theory, Economic Development and International Economics, Economic History and Economic Policy, in Department of Economics, Unye Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and four Assist. Prof. Dr., a University Lecturer and two Research Assistants have been continuing the education activities of the students of the mentioned departments in the main four departments. The economics education covers the two basic processes in Department of Economics in Ordu University Institute of Social Sciences. Firstly, teaching the economic principles and tools that will be used in the work life and therefore educating the high-quality workforce for the economic agents who are trying to be successful in the face of rapidly changing global conditions. Secondly, developing the ability of systematic and independent thinking that may be useful in all areas of human life and giving the scientific discipline to the students in economic matters. | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | The primary goal is to get academicians contributing to the development of the science of economics by doing original researches. In addition, graduated students of economics department in master’s degree have important employment opportunities in the wide variety of public and private sector. They can take examinations such as inspector, auditor and expert assistant held by various ministries and they can be employed in public and private sector banks, enterprises and research institutions. | Access to Further Studies | The graduates who get the required examination mark in the exams held by Higher Education Council (HEC) and who have the optimum conditions determined by HEC may apply to doctoral programs in the majority of social sciences. | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | a) One semester credit value of a graduate course is the sum of the entire of weekly hours of a course of theoretical and half of weekly hours of a course of practical.
b) ‘Ordu University Education and Examination Regulations’ is based calculating the grades of registration, attendance and success; but passing grade in graduate courses is 65 out of 100. At the end of the semester, exam grade must be at least 60 in economics graduate program.
c) The student re-enrolles on failing courses in the semester in which the course is opened. When the courses aren’t opened, removed from the schedule or in similar cases, student may take another graduate course in accordance with the opinion of consultant, the recommendation of the Head of Department of Economics and decision of Institute Board. The student must complete the minimum total credits required in the economics graduate program.
Passing grades on economics graduate program are: : 93 -100, AA, 4.00; 86-92, BA, 3.50; 79 – 85, BB, 3.00; 72 - 78, CB, 2.50; 65 – 71, CC, 2.00; G (Grade G is for non-credit courses.)
| Graduation Requirements | The student must complete at least eight courses –totally at least 24 credits- , a seminar and thesis successfully in minimum 3 semesters, maximum 6 semesters.

| Facilities | Master students of economics department benefit from the opportunities of Unye Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The faculty consists of administration building, social facilities including conference hall, kitchen, cafeteria and canteen, and the service building where classrooms and offices of staff members in it. The conference hall, a capacity of 250 persons, is respond to any event. There are 14 classrooms, a computer lab, a library and a reading room in the classroom building. Campus is located at the edge of the seaside and the state coast roadand there are also amphitheater, volleyball and basketball courts and seating areas. The faculty is five km far away from Unye and the direction of transport activities to Ordu and Samsun operates steadily. Besides, there are also a variety of clubs in the university. The students can join them in accordance with their interest. |
