General Description
|

History | Master program began in the fall semesterof 2008/2009academic year in Department of Biology at Ordu University. The Biology education was began under the Faculty as 5 subdivisions: General Biology, Botany, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology and Zoology. Every year in the beginning of fall and spring semesters, graduated students can enroll the Department of Biology in accordance with quotas were reported by the Department of Biology and conditions of the admission and registration determined by Instituteof Science. | Qualification Awarded | The Master’s Degree Diploma in Biology | Level of Qualification | Second Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | The applicants will be accept with writing science exam prepared by the Departmentof Biology for Master program. Before the beginning ofeach semester, number ofstudents to be admittedto master programs and the qualifications of the applicants will be announced. Also this ad includes application requirements and deadline, writing science exam date and place. Moreover, the applicants who hold a Bachelor's Degree and willing to enroll in the Master's program may apply to the Directorate of the Graduate School with the documents: Sufficient score (at least 55 out of 100) from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or GRE Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score equivalent to ALES score of 55. Equivalence ofdiploma which obtained from out of the country must be approvedby the CouncilofHigher Education(YOK).All applicants can apply this master program with document of ALES or equivalent, Bachelor's Diploma, Transcript and also if applicants have an YDS (Foreign Language Examination conducted by OSYM) or equivalent exam score such as TOEFL or IELTS (not mandatory this document ) untilthe deadline.The assessment for admission to master’s program is based on : 50% of ALES, 20% of academic success in the undergraduate program (cumulative grade point average (CGPA) ), 20% of writingscienceexam grade and 10% of YDS ( Foreign Language Examination conducted by OSYM) or equivalent exam score such as TOEFL or IELTS (not mandatory this document). The required minimum writingscienceexam grade is 50 out of 100. The candidates having an assessed score of 60 at least are accepted into the Master's program. | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | A student who is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents (Min GPA 75/100) before the deadline, may transfer to the Master's Program at Ordu University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. A student who wants to transfer to the Master's Program at Ordu University, can apply with own transcript, student certificate and petition at least three weeks before the start date of semester.Before the commencement of each semester, this application will be examinedand decided prompt transferofthe student'seligibility by the InstituteBoard of Directors. Course credits which are appropriate or not to transfer the Departmentof Biology for Master program at Ordu University, will be decided by supervisor, the Board of Department and Institute Board of Directors at Ordu University. | Qualification Requirements and Regulations | Taking into account there commendations of supervisor, Ordu University Department of Biology master courses may be taken from the department or a different departments. Students choose approval of courses offered by the institute and designated by decision of the department. The program consists of a minimum of eight courses delivered within the graduate program of the department and in related fields, one seminar course, and thesis, with a minimum of 24 local credits. The seminar course and thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis. A student who has completed work on the thesis within the time period, must write a thesis, using the data collected, according to the specifications of the Graduate School Thesis Writing Guide. The thesis must be defended in front of a jury. The Master's thesis jury is appointed on the recommendations of the relevant Department Chairperson and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. A majority vote by the jury members determines the outcome of the thesis or examination. To correct or change a thesis found incomplete and/or inadequate by the jury, the jury must specify in its report that such corrections are necessary. A student may be given, by a decision of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School, up to three months to complete the corrections. If a student successfully defend the thesis, he/she must press the thesis as a book. | Profile of The Programme | Purpose of the master program in Biology Department at Ordu University, master students who will study biology and sub-discipline of science, redound develop to ability of research and increase the knowledge, skills of access to information, assessment and interpret.As well as these studies, faculty members who have adequate knowledge and skills of master’s thesis research laboratories are being carried out successfully. | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | Master students who graduate from the program can work ; in laboratories,food industry, the Ministry of Education with in schools and private schools, education centers, medicine marketing, research organizations, Health and Social Welfare in the Ministry oforganizations,medical andagricultural medicine industry,the National Parks, Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairsin the Ministry ofMinistry of Environment and similar organizations; fulfill many different tasks, such as Biologist, Teacher, Technical Staff, Research and Development (R & D), Production, Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Sales and Marketing. | Access to Further Studies | If graduates who have successfully completed the graduate program at Ordu University Department of Biology, get the sufficient ALES score and provide adequate English language competence in their field, they can apply for the doctoral programs. | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | Master students who continue own education at Ordu University Department of Biology Master Program, are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Master's student must receive at least 70 out of 100. The seminar course and thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis.A student who has completed work on the thesis within the time period, must be defended the thesis in front of a jury. The defence base on two section such as ‘’Present the Thesis’’ and ‘’Question and Answer’’. A majority vote by the jury members determines the outcome of the thesis or examination. | Facilities | Biology Department has 5 subdivisions such as Zoology, Botany, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology and General Biology majors. Biology Department includes 1 Professor,4 associate professors, 5 assistant professors and 11 research assistants. There are 10 faculty members; 4 in Zoology, 3 in Botany, 1 in Molecular Biology, 1 in Hydrobiology, 1inGeneral Biology. Biology department has 5 research laboratories; Zoology Laboratory, Botanical Laboratory, Hydrobiology Laboratory, Molecular Biology and General Biology Laboratory. University Scientific Research Projects Fund may support to the students who want todo scientific researchin our department. |
