General Description

History | Faculty of Agriculture of Ordu was founded in 1992 under the framework of Karadeniz Technical University of Trabzon and joined into newly founded Ordu University in 2006. Education and training activities were actively carried out in Soil Science until 1999, in Plant Production between 1999 and 2003 and in Agricultural Engineering programs from 2003 to 2009. After receiving a three-year basic study in common field, the students in Plant Production and Agricultural Engineering programs received specialized education and training in Horticulture, Field Crops and Soil Science sub-programs. Starting in 2009–2010 academic year, the students were admitted to Field Crops Department based on their department preferences at the stage of University Entrance Examination. The Department has currently three main divisions namely Cereals and Food Legumes, Industrial Crops and Pasture and Forage Crops. | Qualification Awarded | Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded with an Undergraduate Diploma in Agricultural Engineering - Field Crops Department. | Level of Qualification | First Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | 1. | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | Recognition of Prior Learning process is is fully initiated in Turkish Higher Education. In all programs of Ordu University, student transfer can be made among the faculties/institutions/vocational schools of which equivalency is recognized by Council of Higher Education. In addition, successful vocational school graduates are given an opportunity to continue their education at faculties to receive a Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS). In this case, the courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs they have graduated from. Moreover, an Exemption Examination at the beginning of fall semester in every year for compulsory English course is available to any student currently enrolled in a program.
| Qualification Requirements and Regulations | To be awarded with Undergraduate Diploma in Agricultural Engineering - Field Crops Department, students are required to;
1. pass all courses in the curriculum, with a CC grade at least,
2. make a grade point average of at least 2 out of 4,
3. complete a thirty-day compulsory practical training
4. complete a graduation thesis, present and defense against to a jury | Profile of The Programme | To meet the needs for well-educated field crops specialists, the Department is focused to educate and train qualified Agricultural Engineers - Field Crops Department furnished with contemporary knowledge and skills required for agriculture and agriculture-based industry and with creative abilities of developing new modern techniques to be applied in field crops cultivation. With compulsory courses in food legumes, cereals, pasture, forage and industrial crops in the department, the students are provided with satisfactory general knowledge that enables them to work in any region of the country. Furthermore, there are elective courses, either inside or outside the department, to enable the students to improve her/his field of special interest. The students graduated from the program will have scientific power and ability to identify agricultural problems and develop reasonable solutions by carrying out independent and interdisciplinary scientific researches. | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | The students graduated from the program, Agricultural Engineers - Field crops Department, can primarily work as technical staff, researcher, field crops specialist, agricultural planner and subject experts in agricultural provincial directorates and research institutes of the Ministry of Agriculture. They can also serve in public and private foundations such as agricultural cooperatives and producer unions, agriculture-based industrial sectors (sugar, flour, feed and oil factories), seed sector and agricultural chemistry, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, municipalities and universities. Furthermore, they can set up, drive and manage her/his private agricultural enterprise. | Access to Further Studies | Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, the students who score required grade on Graduate Education Exam (ALES) and have sufficient English language skills can attend to graduate programs. | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | The students are subjected to a midterm and a final exam in all courses in the curriculum except vocational practice and graduation thesis. The weight of midterm and final exam, evaluated at 100 points, in passing grade is 40% and 60%, respectively. The students must score at least 50 points in final exam and a total of 60 as a passing point (midterm + final) as well. The students who get any of AA, BA, BB, CB and CC grades in a given course are considered as successful. | Graduation Requirements | The students who are successful in all courses she/he enrolls and get a grade point average at least above 2 out of 4 and complete a thirty-day compulsory practical training and a graduation thesis are entitled to graduate with the title of Agricultural Engineer - Field Crops Department. | Mode of Study (Full-Time, Part-Time, E-Learning ) | Full-Time | Address, Programme Director or Equivalent | Ordu University, Faculty of Agriculture, Field Crops Department, 52200 - Ordu, Turkey.

| Facilities | Alongside comprehensive education and teaching activities to train qualified agricultural engineers, research projects intended for developing resolutions encountered in cultivation of field crops of economical importance in the Black Sea Region are primarily carried out in the department. The Department employs 12 full time staff including 2 professors, 2 associated professors, 2 assistant professors and 6 research assistants. In the department, research projects are mainly focused on cereals, edible grain legumes, oil, sugar and starch crops, meadow-range management and improvement, fodder crops, medicinal and aromatic plants, field crops ecology, plant physiology, plant breeding, seed production and technology. There are two plant analysis laboratories and one greenhouse available for researches. |
