The Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering department was established within the Ordu University Fatsa Marine Science Faculty in 2010 and started student enrolment in 2015. Aim of the department is to meet the qualified manpower requirements of the Turkish maritime industry. Compliance of the curriculum of the Department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering to the A-II/1 and A-II/2 Education Standards of International Maritime Organization (IMO) STCW Convention has been approved by Turkish Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications. Department curriculum covers also required engineering courses. Students are accepted into the department with the university entry exam system. Successful students must have “Seafarer Healthy Certificate” to ensure all students are fit for maritime service. Study period consists of 5 years, the first year is for English Preparation Course (Optional) and the last four years are for undergraduate education. Students are obliged to wear uniform. The graduates have the right to sit for the Oceangoing Watchkeeping Officer exam held by the Turkish Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
Exams of exemption are organised at the start of each term at the University for courses compulsory in the curriculum, such as Foreign Languages and Basic Computing. The students who have completed the learning process for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum, and this grade is entered into the transcript of the student. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
Certificate of English proficency, Passing all courses, a year oversea training practice. The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum including summer practices, with a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00. |

The department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering is committed to addressing the educational and research needs to ensure sustainable management of the maritime resources and also provide the students with maritime traditions and commons, critical and analytical thinking, selfdiscipline, selfconfidence, social responsibility, team working, lifelong learning, managerial and leadership qualifications. Main research activities involve ship handling, port and agency management. |

Graduates of Department of Marine Transportation Engineering are employed in a wide range of positions in both the private and
public sectors. Our graduates can acquire positions in different fields of the private sector, such as shipping companies, ports,
logistic companies, shipyards, transportation companies, yacht tourism companies. In public sector, our graduates can be
employed Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Ministry of Customs and Trade, Ministry
of Education and Public Universities and Pilotage Companies. |

The student who have completed the department may apply to Master of Science in variety of fields in the department. |
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
"Measurement and evaluation methods for each course are defined in the course syllabi prepared by the instructor/s. Exam and passing grades are regulated according to the rules and regulations of Ordu University.

Graduation Requirements |
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS. According to STCW convention requirements all students should complete approved one year inservice training on the merchant vessels. |

Department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering located in Fatsa-ORDU. In the department, full mission bridge simulator, GMDSS simulator, tanker simulator, navigation, seamanship, safety at sea, first aid medical care, maritime chemistry and computer laboratories are available. Department also has Maritime Safety Training Centre. |
