- MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS
- Bachelor's Degree
General Description
|
|
History | The Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established on February 7th, 1999, in accordance with Council of Ministers the law no 98/10569, which was affiliated with Ondokuz Mayıs University. The faculty has started undergraduate education with departments of Mathematics and Turkish Language and Literature in 1999. Department of History and Biology were established in 2000; and Physics, Chemistry, and Foreign Languages were included in 2003. Later, Ordu University was established in 2006. Our faculty includes departments of Psychology, History of Art, Geography, Sociology, Philosophy, and Modern Turkish Dialects and Literatures. In 2008, Molecular Biology and Genetics Department was established. Although the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics has only formal education program, Mathematics, Sociology, Art History, Turkish Language and Literature, and History departments have both formal and evening education programs. The department of Molecular Biology and Genetics comprises General Biology, Zoology, Botany, Molecular Biology, and Hydrobiology. In total, there are 10 faculty members: one academic at Molecular Biology, four at Zoology, one at Hydrobiology, three at Botany, and one at General Biology. The department also provides Master's and Ph.D. programs. There are two student laboratories and five research laboratories. | Qualification Awarded | Students who will graduate from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, will take "biologist" title and authority. | Level of Qualification | First Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | 1. High school or equivalent diploma.
2. Enough points to be taken LYS (High Education Exam) exam score. | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | Recognition of prior learning is at the beginning stage in the Turkish Higher Education System. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum, and this grade is entered into the transcript of the student.
| Qualification Requirements and Regulations | In order to take undergrad degree (to award biologist title ) in Molecular Biology and Genetics Department, students are required to ;
1. Have passed at least a DC grade in all courses in the curriculum
2. Have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00.
3. Prepare graduation thesis than submit it and successfully passed the thesis.
| Profile of The Programme | Biologist who graduated with different parts of the titles (Biotechnologist, Botanist, Marine Biologist, Ecologist, Entomologist, Hydro Biologist, Geneticist, Limnologist, Molecular Biologist, Molecular Geneticist, Medical Biologist, Taxonomist, Wildlife Biologist, Zoologist) at universities biology department or sub-branches of biology, and research, investigation, analysis, audit, and control to production, report on laboratory studies about Organisms and Ecosystems, Environmental Management, Waste Management, Nature Conservation, Environmental Health, Natural Resource Management and Food Safety or in the natural environment, is authorized person.
| Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | Students who have successfully completed the program; have a Bachelor degree of Molecular Biology and Genetics and title as biologist and will have the ability to work in molecular-based diagnostic laboratories in private and public hospitals; environmental research units, research laboratories for the identification, categorization and conservation of biodiversity, GMO diagnostic laboratories, biomedical companies and increasing number of biotechnology companies.
| Access to Further Studies | Students who successfully graduated from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics can apply to MSc or PhD programs in Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology or other similar programs if they are successful in the required exams (ALES and English). | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | The students have a midterm exam and final exam for all courses, except graduation thesis and professional practice. The mid-term exam is 40% and final exam is 60% for total grade. All exams are graded out of 100. Students are required to obtain at least 50 points for the mid-term exam/Final exam.
