The Department of English Language and Literature was founded with the unanimous senatorial resolution of Ordu University on 26 September 2003. Assisstant Professor Cuneyt OZATA and Gokhan BİCER were the first chairs of the department. The department has been activated in 2013 when it received sudents. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
The undergraduate programme of the Department of English Language and Literature admits 40 students every year based on the results of the Central Placement Examination administered by ÖSYM. The candidates are placed in the programme according to their DİL-1 scores, their own preferences and the requirements and quotas of the programme. Registration and admission of the students are executed by the Students Affairs Office in accordance with the calendar determined by ÖSYM. |

Successful students of the Department of English Language and Literature can pursue a minor certificate programme in the departments of Communication Design- Multimedia, International Relations, Business Administration and Psychology. |

Profile of The Programme |
The Department of English Language and Literature offers an in-depth study of literary and cultural traditions in English and teaches analytic, critical and communication skills, with a particular focus on written and spoken academic English. Emphasizing the linguistic features of literary and cultural texts, as well as the historical and culture-specific aspects of language, its curriculum brings together literary, linguistic and cultural studies to offer fresh ways of reading a large variety of classical and contemporary texts. Students also engage with the broader social, historical and cultural contexts from which these texts emerge, developing an understanding of the role of language and culture in their production, dissemination and consumption.
The degree in English prepares students for further academic study as well as careers in secondary and higher education. As critical thinkers, insightful interpreters of all kinds of texts, and effective communicators in both oral and written English, the graduates of the department go on to pursue careers in many different fields, including media and communications and business. |

Graduation Requirements |
To obtain a BA degree in English Language and Literature, students should complete the required credits (240 ECTS) with a minimum of 2.0 GPA over 4.0. |
