Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to teach the stylistic features and meanings of figurative ornaments in Turkish monumental buildings.

4Student explains the continuity of pre-Islamic Turkish culture in the Islamic era.
5Student introduces Turkic-Islamic iconography and cosmology with examples.

Course Contents
The symbols of Turkish culture and their meanings. Turkic-Islamic cosmology and iconography. Examples of figurative ornamentation from Ghaznavid palaces, figurative ornaments in the Great Seljuk and Anatolian Seljuk (Sultanate of Rum) buildings. Figurative ornaments in the Artuqid buildings. Examples of figurative ornamentation during the period of the Beyliks.
