Objectives of the Course
Evaluating economic developments in Turkey from the beginning of Republican period to the present in terms of basic economic indicators such as growth, industrialization, foreign trade, and changes in income distribution.

Learning Outcomes
1Açık ve kapalı ekonomi, ithal ikameci politika, özelleştirme, küreselleşme, korumacılık, devletçilik gibi iktisadi terimler çerçevesinde Türkiye ekonomisini analiz eder.
2Milli gelir, gelir dağılımı, işsizlik, enflasyon, ekonomik büyüme gibi ekonomik göstergelerle Türkiye ekonomisinin yapısını inceler.
3Türkiye´nin uluslararası düzeyde yürüyen iktisadi ilişkilerini değerlendirir.
4Türkiye ekonomisinde yaşanan krizleri neden ve sonuç açısından tartışır, farklı politikaları, kalkınma planlarını tanır ve sorgular.
5Analyses Turkish Economy in terms of open and closed economy, import substitution policy, privatization, globalization, protectionism and etatism.
6Recognizes the structure of Turkish Economy regarding economic indicators like national income, income distribution, unemployment, inflation, and economic growth.
7Evaluates international economic relations of Turkey.
8Debates crises of Turkish Economy in terms of causes and effects, recognizes and questions different policies and development plans.

Course Contents
The topics to be covered include the last years of the Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Republic of Turkey from an economic perspective, 1930s and statism, economic liberalization in the period of 1950-1960, development plans and import-substitution policies for industrialization after 1960, 24 January 1980 economic measures and export-oriented industrialization experience of Turkey, financial liberalization in the 1990s, and economic crises of 1994 and 2000-2001.
