To have adequate academic knowledge about the definition and functions of language, grammar, and the basic concepts of linguistics, affixes, types of word derivation, spelling rules.

Course Contents
The structural features of Turkish; word (root, stem, base, affix), word types according to their origins (native word, nonnative word: etymology), word types according to their structures (simple word, derived word, compound word), word class (noun, adjective, verb, adverb, pronoun, conjunction, proposition, interjection); affixes in Turkish (a) derivational affixes, b) inflections, c) gerunds and infinitives, d) causatives, e) ekfiil ekleri); types of word derivation in Turkish. Word stress. Analysis of roots, stems, and affixes of words. Spelling rules: Spelling of some words and affixes (the spelling of le mekekfiilinin çekimli biçimlerde yazılışı; the spelling of seand ken the spelling of the suffix kiand the conjunction i the spelling of the suffix deand the conjunction e the spelling of gerunds and infinitives); the spelling of the nonnative words, situations where capital and lower case letters are used; the spelling of days and months; the spelling of numbers, the spelling of roman numerals; the spelling of sun, moon, and the names of planets; the spelling of compound words; the spelling of terms, idioms, and proverbs; the spelling of reduplications; the spelling of intensifiers; spelling exercises
