| Level of Course Unit | First Cycle | Objectives of the Course | This course, focuses on sociological studies which takes into account cities as socio-spatial scales, and experience of Turkish urbanization and urban spaces. At the first section of the course, theoretical and conceptual topics, that have derived from Chicago School, as cities have been established as sociological scales, will be analyzed as sociology of the space. At the middle of the semester, Turkish urbanization experience and sub-urbanization processes will be examined through a historical perspective. At the second part of the course, contemporary topics of sociology of urbanization such as theories of poverty, urban gentrification, welfare and urban poverty and organization of poverty in urban spaces.
