The aim of the course is to provide advanced nutritional informations for students.

Learning Outcomes
1Understanding of basic nutrition principals and nutritional sources for athletes;
2Conceiving of nutritional aspects of optimal performance;
3Implying of macro (carbohydrate, protein, lipid) and micro (vitamin, mineral and water) nutrients and its’ chemical properties and importance on athletic performance;
4Conceiving of different nutrition methods practices at before, during and after various exercises and sporting races and its’ application reasons;
5Understanding of conception of energy balance on achieving weight control and of resting metabolic rate, thermic effect of physical activity, thermic effect of a meal and factors affecting nutritional needs;

Course Contents
General principles of nutrition, fuel sources for muscle and exercise metabolism, the macronutrients and micronutrients, fluid requirements and fluid balance, electrolytes, temperature regulation, nutrition supplements, digestion and absorption, factors affecting nutritional needs, nutritional strategies for energy systems, eating disorders and nutrition and immune function in athletes, nutritional plans for specific sports, nutrition and fitness assessment, weight control and energy balance

4The micronutrients, vitamins (the organic regulators) and Minerals (the inorganic regulators-macrominerals and trace minerals)
5Nutrition supplements (ergogenic aids), evaluating sport nutrition products
6Nutritional aspects of optimal performance, gastric emptying digestion and absorption
7Timing of energy and fluid intake
8Exam
9Efficient delivery of oxygen, and inhibitors of fuel and nutrient utilization
10Factors affecting nutritional needs (travel, high altitude, gender and age, body composition and weight), weight maintenance and loss through proper nutrition and exercise
11Nutritional strategies for energy systems (anaerobic metabolism for high-intensity burst and power, aerobic metabolism for endurance
12Eating disorders and nutrition and immune function in athletes
13Nutritional plans for specific sports (sports requiring power and speed)
14Nutritional plans for specific sports (sports requiring endurance)
15 Nutritional plans for specific sports (sports requiring combined power and endurance), nutrition and fitness assessment
