Objectives of the Course
This course aims at enabling the students to build the idea of language and consciousness within the context of communication tool, social phenomenon and productivity component of culture; to conceptualize unit of the language with the level of relation among voice, syllable, word and affix; to make sense of word meaning and its function as telling.

1The students will be able to: Describe the voice and figure structure of Turkish.
2Introduce function of language and logical structure of Turkish and transfer the information.
3Analyze the words from the point of voice design.

6Make phonological and morphological analysis on Turkish texts.

Course Contents
This course focuses mainly on the phonetic and morphological features of Turkish Language.

1Definition and characteristics of language. Language and communication. Theories about the birth of language. History of grammatical studies.
2Relationship between language and culture. Classification of world languages in terms of structure and origin. Turkish language among world languages, historical periods of Turkish language.
3Spoken language-written language; dialect-accent and their features. Works belonging to different periods of Turkish language
4Definition of language sounds, physiologic bases of language, sound organs, sound-letter relationships and alphabet. Formation of sounds. Classification of sounds ( vowels), classification of sounds (consonants)
5Main sound features of Turkish words
6Main audio events in Turkish words. Turkish syllable patterns
7Word roots (noun-verb), differences in terms of meaning and use. Major ways to meet concepts
8Turkish language word derivation conditions. Characteristics and types of formative suffixes (suffixes forming nouns from nouns or verbs from nouns).
9Mid-term exam
10Formative suffixes, types of formative suffixes (forming nouns from verbs), Infinitives and gerunds in Turkish language and their fields of use
11Types of formative suffixes (forming verbs from verbs).
12General features of inflectional suffixes, noun inflectional suffixes (suffixes of quantitiy and possesion), noun inflectional suffixes (noun state suffixes, question suffixes). Verb inflectional suffixes (modal suffixes), writing applications
13Verb inflectional suffixes (personal suffixes, copulative verb suffixes).
