Objectives of the Course
The course aims to provide the students with theoretical knowledge and analytical and creative skills as to understand and evaluate literature from an academic point of view by learning through reading literary texts and literary theory and criticism texts, and participating in lectures and seminar discussions.

1The students will acquire knowledge of the formal and thematic dimensions of the written texts, information on authors and understanding of the social and cultural importance and impact on the production of literary texts;
2By approaching the texts, think critically and develop critical, analytical and comparative skills; By engaging with analysis and different interpretative perspectives, assess competing historical and critical points of view and understand the relationship between literary theory and practice;
3Think historically and understand the relationship between the aesthetic dimension of the written text and the wide range of social, cultural and other relevant contexts;

Course Contents
The course focuses on one of the major English writers, William Shakespeare, and strengthens the students’ knowledge of the Renaissance author by disclosing the complexity of his life and literary activity. The emphasis is on those aspects of Shakespearean drama and poetry that both represented a continuation of the ancient and medieval literary practice and marked the rise and development of certain literary traditions, thus influencing the literary production of later periods.
