Objectives of the Course

This course is intended to provide an introduction to basic concepts and issues in Translation Studies and a broad-based foundation for further studies of translation. The aim of this course is to provide an overview of translation studies as a specific area of study with translation theory as a crucial component of this area. Considering the steps and various factors involved in the translation process, the course aims to come to the conclusion that translating is basically decision making.

1	To be able to understand the problems and complexities of translation, and the responsibilities of the translator.
2	To be able to grasp how the concept of culture functions in the translation process.
3	To be able to prepare and compare translations of literary and non-literary texts and identify the merits and flaws of each translation.
4	To be able to approach translated texts with various translation theories.
