Objectives of the Course
This course aims at informing and instructing the students about the anaysis of English realist novel in 18th century by discussing the theoretical aspects, literary characteristics and the rise of novel as a genre and examining the leading novels of the period in social, cultural, political and economical context.

Course Contents
The novel as a literary genre with its historical, philosophical, social and theoretical rise; the types of novel such as novella, gothic novel, realist novel, picaresque novel, comic novel, novel of letters, and sentimental novel; the interpretation of reflection regarding the topical social, philosophical, cultural situations and innovations in the 18th Century England through the discussion of contemporary novels; the critical analysis of the novels assigned.
