Objectives of the Course
This course aims to meet minimum requirements of the STCW 78/2010 Convention for the functions Communication at sea for unlimited deck officer.

Course Contents
Signalling by Morse code, International Code of Signals, single letter meanings, usage of Code book, Radiotelephone communications, distress, urgency and safety messages, communicating with port authorities and vessel traffic services, distress frequency monitoring, keeping a radio logbook, radio telex, procedures for distress, urgency, safety and navigational messages in Global Maritime Distress and Safety System. Procedures for distress, urgency and safety messages via earth station, Introduction to GMDSS. development of new system and International regulations, COSPAT/SARSAT, EPIRBs, INMARSAT system, GMDSS areas, monitoring frequencies and frequencies used for distress, urgency and safety, shipboard equipments required by GMDSS according to sea areas, sending distress message on INMARSAT-A and INMARSAT-C terminals, general communication via INMARSAT system, antenna alignment, telex communication via INMARSAT, telephone and facsimile communications via INMARSAT, INMARSAT-M charging procedures. AIS and LRIT.

9Presentation of GMDSS, the new system's formation and international rules.
10COSPAS/SARSAT, EPIRB devices, INMARSAT system, the determination of maritime regions.
11Frequencies must to be list in GMDSS, frequencies are used for distress and safety messages.
12Region must be used according to the devices, INMARSAT-A and INMARSAT-C and sending an emergency call for help. Practical exam and evaluation students.
