Objectives of the Course
The aim of the course is to provide students with verbal and written communication skills necessary to reach various foreign sources in their departments, use them efficiently, exchange information and to use English effectively in future business life and contribute to the academic development of the students.Basic English courses are aimed at improving the structural and lexical knowledge of students at the target level.Basic English classes are supported by listening, speaking, reading and writing activities and are integrated with all language skills.

Learning Outcomes
1At the end of this course, students  communicate fluently and correctly verbally at a reasonable level in English in different social settings and needs.
2Students use the necessary knowledge, skills and strategies by reading various texts to become a successful, independent and fast reader.
3Students recognize the speech language used in everyday life.
4Students use basic language structures in written communication.
5Students use appropriate and correct language knowledge in accordance with the style and social discourse forms by selecting relevant knowledge in the texts they write.

Course Contents
Students in the Preparatory Unit attend the "Main Course" lesson 16 hours per week in the first semester and 8 hours per week in the second semester. The "Main Course" courses are conducted under the New Headway series, a course book that develops all the skills. Beginner, Elementary, Pre-intermediate and Intermediate boks of the series are used. Especially listening, reading, speaking, grammar and vocabulary are emphasized in the book series. Reading & Writing: All students studying in the Preparatory Unit take "Reading & Writing" lessons 4 hours in the first semester and 8 hours in the second semester. As a textbook, Reading & Writing Targets series 1, 2 and 3 are used. it is aimed at developing reading comprehension skills and vocabulary of learners in English through reading materials presented in a wide range of folks and different types of texts as well as reading techniques that students may need throughout the undergraduate period. Based on these text types and topics, students are given written assignments.This course has been prepared in accordance with the objectives of the European Language Portfolio. All students studying in the Preparatory Unit take "Reading & Writing" lessons 8 hours a week in the second semester. Reading & Writing I in Fall, Reading & Writing II and III in Spring terms will be used. Listening & Speaking: For all students studying in the Preparatory Unit, listening and speaking skills are given through activities in the main course during the first semester; In the second semester, "Listening & Speaking" is given as a separate lesson, 8 hours a week. The main purpose of the courses accompanied with Q-Skills for Success Listening and Speaking book is to develop communicative language skills of the students. In line with this goal, the topics are prepared considering the criteria in the European Language Portfolio. Extra audiovisual and visual materials are used to enrich the content of the lesson and make the students practice. All students studying in the Preparatory Unit take the "Listening & Speaking" lesson 8 hours a week in the second semester. Listening & Speaking I book will be used during spring semester. Grammar (Grammar): Grammar lessons are given 6 hours per week during the fall term and 2 hours per week during the spring term. In this lesson, topics in Oxford Practice Grammar-Basic book is covered.
