Objectives of the Course
To educate the dental students about history of X-rays, radiobiology and basics of radiology.

Learning Outcomes
1Understand radiology history, radiation physics including X-ray production, different components of X-ray machines, and the various properties of X-rays.
2Discuss how images are produced and identify different image characteristics in density, contrast, sharpness, and resolution; and illustrate all factors affecting these characteristics
3Understand structure of x-ray film that used on dentistry
4Know processing x-ray film.
5Recognize measurement units in radiology, dental x-ray doses, patient safety and comfort during radiographic procedures, ALARA concept, dose measurement equipments and methods
6Discuss basic principles of radiation biology, effect of radiation on natural environment, radiation sources and biological effects of radiation.

Course Contents
1. Radiology history, radiation physics including X-ray production, different components of X-ray machines, and the various properties of X-rays. 2. Obtained images and identify different image characteristics in densitry, contrast, sharpness, and resolution; and illustrate all factors affecting these characteristics 3. Structure of x-ray film that used on dentistry 4. Processing x-ray film. 5.
