Objectives of the Course
To teach the structural biology of periodontium, etiology of periodontal disease, the influence of the local and systemic factors on periodontium, the pathogenesis and diagnosis and diagnostic techniques of periodontal disease and classification of periodontal diseases.

Course Contents
Beginning to periodontology, the importance of periodontology, morphology of the gingiva, gingival connective tissue cells, epithelial attachment, gingival epithelium, alveolar bone morphology and histology, periodontal ligament, cementum, classification of periodontal diseases, epidemiology of periodontal diseases, periodontal microbiology, immunity and inflammation host-microbial interaction, molecular biology, genetic factors affecting periodontal diseases, dental calculus and other predisposing factors, gingival diseases in childhood, defense mechanisms of the gingiva, gingival enlargements, acute gingival infections, smoking and periodontal diseases, gingival inflammation and gingivitis, desquamative gingivitis, the periodontal pocket, bone loss and patterns of bone destruction, aggressive and chronic periodontitis, systemic disorders and periodontitis, periodontal medicine.
